Google is now rolling out the Android 4.4.4 update for Nexus 5 and Nexus 10. Yes, we are just as surprised as you are, because there were no leaks of the new firmware update.
Anyway, as you might have guessed already, Android 4.4.4 for Nexus 5 and Nexus 10 is just a minor update. The new firmware update arrives to improve security by fixing a recently discovered vulnerability in OpenSSL. There are also tweaks for WebView and Chromium projects, and the usual bug fixes.
Just like it happens to any other firmware updates, the Nexus 5 and Nexus 10 Android 4.4.4 KitKat OTA update is being rolled out in phases, which means that some of you might still have to wait a few more days until the new software is rolled out to your devices. As you may know, once your Nexus device becomes eligible to receive the new firmware you should be able to see a system update message in the notification area. Tap on it, choose download, then select install now after the download is completed.
You can also check for the new update manually under Settings > About phone > System updates > Check now.
The new firmware is labeled KTU84P and has as size of around 3 MB. This means that it’s safe to download the update file using your mobile network without damaging your data plan.
