Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini Android 4.4.2 KitKat Update Now Being Pushed to Verizon Users

The Android 4.4.2 KitKat OTA update for Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini is now being rolled out to Verizon users. If you happen to own Verizon’s S4 Mini, you should start checking the notification bar.

As usual, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini Android 4.4.2 update is being rolled out in phases, meaning that some users might not be able to download and install it right away. As you may know, once your Galaxy S4 Mini becomes eligible to receive the new firmware you should see a system update message in the notification area. Tap on it and follow the on screen instructions. If the system update notification fails to appear you should also perform a manual check under Settings > More > About phone > Software updates > Check for software updates. Alternatively, you can grab the USB cable, connect the smartphone to the PC, and manually check for the update via KIES.

According to Verizon’s support PDF the Android 4.4.2 update for Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini is labeled KOT49H.I435VRUBND5 and brings KitKat-specific goodies such as cloud printing, SMS integration with Hangouts, Google+ Photos is renamed to Photos, and Play Magazine is now called Play Newsstand. You should also be able to notice other changes like white status bar icons, new Location menu, full screen album art in the lockscreen, color emoji support, camera shortcut on the lock screen, or immersive mode.

The same support document also mentions that two new apps (read bloatware) come pre-loaded Verizon Cloud and Emergency Alerts, while the new firmware adds security enhancements like KNOX 2.0 for Enterprise Support.

Once you update your Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini to Android 4.4.2 KitKat you should also notice that issues la WiFi network stability, Backup Assistant Plus sync, or Google Voice Search have been fixed.

The new software update has a size of over 500 MB, therefore it’s recommended to download the update file using a WiFi network in order to avoid unwanted data charges.
