The iOS 8 update's fall launch is highly-anticipated for some of the features it will be bringing users, but as ZDNet reports, the iteration will also offer enhancements to keep all those features and user information private.
Apple has actually uploaded a video, along with a 109-slide PDF, on user privacy updates coming with the download, but here are a few key takeaways:
-App Privacy Settings
Users will now be able to modify app privacy on an app-to-app basis, allowing users to monitor what apps have access to their contacts, microphone and more.
-App Notification Settings
The new settings notification settings will keep unwanted notifications from bothering users:
"iOS 8 now includes an app's Notification settings in the same panel as the new Privacy settings in Settings > AppName. This give users a second - and more convenient - way to mute a pesky app's notifications. In iOS 7 you have to drill down through Settings > Notification Center > AppName to make changes to an offending app's Notifications settings."
-Location access
Users will now be able to control how apps use their location:
"Location shaming will force developers to reconsider whether they really need full-time access to a user's location because a user that's startled by an app the dialog above is more likely to click on "Don't Allow" and even uninstall the offending app."
These are just a few of the changes users can expect in the update, but make sure to head over toZDNet to get the full scoop.
iOS users without a developer account who simply can't wait until the official public iOS 8 update will be pleased to hear a new trick to install the beta 2 iteration has surfaced, BGR reports.
The publication reports that while it can be a risky process, the beta update has a security flaw that allows users to bypass the tech giant's checks for download on supported devices. Users should be warned, however, that they won't be able to connect to iTunes on the device without a developer account and won't be able to retrieve data back from their previous iOS 7 backups. Activation errors and other issues are also possible.
Lastly, those who have downloaded the beta 1 update won't simply be able to download beta 2. Instead, these users will need to switch back to iOS 7.1.1 and then install beta 2.
