Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 sells out in South Korea before it even launches

As expected, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus have dominated the news cycle ever since Appletook the stage in Cupertino earlier this month. Records were broken and lines were formed, but on the other side of the world, another huge smartphone launch was taking shape. South Korean newspaper Metro reports that Samsung has had to cut off preorders for the Galaxy Note 4 after overwhelming demand depleted the supply of the phablet at every major carrier in the country.

It took just 9 hours for for SK Telecom, the biggest carrier in Korea, to sell out of the Galaxy Note 4. Within three days, KT and LG Uplus has sold out as well. Customers only had from September 18th to the 25th to place their preorders, which might have been a driving force behind the quick sellouts.

This news follows an earlier report from Metro in which Samsung revealed it would be launching the Galaxy Note 4 on September 26th, earlier than originally planned, likely as a response to the release of the iPhone 6.

As of last Friday, Samsung’s 5.7-inch answer to the iPhone 6 is available to preorder in the United States as well ahead of its October 17th release. The Galaxy Note 4 features a Quad HD display, 2.7GHz quad-core processor, 3GB of RAM, 16-megapixel camera and Android 4.4 KitKat.
