Pro photographer pens massive in-depth iPhone 6 Plus camera review

 Apple
Apple’s new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus debuted earlier this month and fans clearly loved what they saw because Apple moved a record 10 million units during the phone’s first three days of availability alone. The new 2014 models feature better specs, bigger screens and a top to bottom design overhaul, some elements of which have been a bit controversial. Overall, of course, the reception to Apple’s new iPhones has been very positive.
We have already published our in-depth iPhone 6 review and our iPhone 6 Plus review, both of which give thorough overviews of the new iPhone experience and touched on just about all of the key points. Those looking for a more focused review that analyzes each and every aspect of Apple’s new and improved iSight camera, however, now have the review they’ve been waiting for.
Apple’s new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus feature an updated 8-megapixel iSight camera that we have discussed several times before here on BGR. While the megapixel count is the same as Apple’s previous-generation camera, the new unit features a number of improvements in other areas.
The larger iPhone 6 Plus is also the first iPhone ever to get optical image stabilization (OIS), which has a dramatic impact on image quality; the benefits of OIS on the iPhone 6 Plus can clearly be seen in this iPhone 6 vs. iPhone 6 Plus camera showdown and in this video comparison.
But professional photographer and Improve Photography founder Jim Harmer took things a step further.
“Over the last few days I have shot thousands and thousands of frames with iPhone 5s and iPhone 6 Plus to compare the cameras,” Harmer wrote in his in-depth iPhone 6 Plus camera review. “I took them into the testing lab and did all the scientific testing using a high-end Imatest system with charts and graphs and numbers, and also took them out in the real world to shoot landscapes, portraits, and action.”
Harmer says he has shot with just about every popular camera on the planet, from smartphones to $10,000 DSLRs, and he used more than 21 different tests while putting the iPhone 6 Plus through the paces. The result may very well be the most thorough 6 Plus camera review we’ve come across.
You won’t find any spoilers here, though. To see how the iPhone 6 Plus’ camera fared in Harmer’s tests, hit the link below in our source section.
