Google’s new Android version, which we believe will be called Android 5.0 Lollipop, has been showcased today at Google I/O 2014 and the factory images for Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 will become available tomorrow for developers.
According to Google, the factory images are only preview builds and not the final version of the operating system, which means it can come with bugs or unfinished features, in order to allow developers test their apps for it and take advantage of the 5000 new APIs it comes with. Along with this, I believe the company is also expecting testers to report back the bugs they find so they can fix it before the official release to the public.
Currently it’s not clear if anyone will be able to download the factory images, but we believe they will be made public. Anyway make sure we will get our hands on them if Google decides to offer them only to some specific developers and help you install them on your devices.
Hopefully Google will release the Android 5.0 factory images for other devices too, including the Nexus 4 and Nexus 10.
Android 5.0 L comes with a new design and a lot of new features, along with speed enhancements. Among the features you are going to find a new notifications window, improved multitasking, which allows Chrome Tabs and app to use multiple cards.
Once the factory images are released, we’re going to install them on our devices and let you know everything you have to know about Android 5.0. We will also let you know how to easily install them without the risk to brick your device. Make sure to visit us again tomorrow if you want to get your hands on the new factory images. We expect third-party developers to port the Android 5.0 Preview on other devices too soon.
