Google I/O 2014: Android 5.0 L Allows Apps and Chrome Tabs to Use Multiple Multitasking Slots

Google has just shown us a preview of Android L, which we believe will be the version Android 5.0. In the showcase we’ve seen a very interesting new feature, that allows Chrome Tabs and other apps to use multiple slots in the multitasking cards. This means that web apps will look just like native apps.

The company wants to significantly improve Android’s multitasking capabilities and has revamped the feature in Android 5.0. It now looks cleaner and it’s much easier to navigate between open apps or Chrome tabs.

A new API will allow apps to make use of this feature and use multiple cards in the multitasking window, allowing you to jump directly to a part of an app even if you’re currently outside of that app. According to the company, other Google apps will soon take advantage of this feature soon.

This new feature isn’t for just any app, so don’t expect everything to use multiple spaces in your multitasking window, but there are some that will become much better thanks to this.

Along with this, Android 5.0 also allows apps and Google search to link directly to a part of another app. This means that clicking a link on Google search can get you directly to a specific restaurant in the OpenTable app, if you have it installed on your phone.

The Android 5.0 update comes with a revamped design, some new functionalities that intent to make our lives and communication easier and it should also be faster and more stable. The factory images should become available tomorrow for Nexus 5 and 7 and we’ll let you know once Google releases them.
