We’ve heard a while ago that the Taiwan-based company is on the verge of introducing an LTE-friendly ZenFone 5 model and a PadFone S. Both devices have been officially announced by ASUS and they are already up for grabs in the company’s home country, Taiwan. There’s no mention whether the PadFone S and the ZenFone 5 LTE will be launched on other markets, but we believe they might go on sale outside Taiwan, too.
Just like early rumors have suggested, the ASUS Padfone S is the non-US variant of the PadFone X, the smartphone-tablet hybrid that debuted at AT&T in June.
For the comparison’s sake, AT&T’s PadFone X arrives with a Snapdragon 800 processor, while the new PadFone S is underpinned by a new quad-core Snapdragon 801 CPU. The PadFone S is also spash-proof and compatible with Qi wireless chargers. The PadFone S smartphone arrives with a 5.0-inch Super IPS + LCD display with 1080 x 1920 resolution and 441 ppi pixel density, has 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB native storage, and microSD slot (up to 64 GB supported).
The ASUS PadFone S technical specifications list also includes a 13 MP rear-facing camera, 2 MP front-facing camera, 2,300 mAh battery, and all the connectivity features worthy of a modern smartphone including LTE, WiF, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, and microUSB 2.0. The smartphone leaves the factory gates pre-loaded with Android 4.4.2 KitKat.
The ASUS PadFone S Station features a 9-inch 1920 x 1200 IPS display, measures 250.4 x 172.3 x 11.6 mm, weighs 514 grams, and has a 4,990 mAh battery that also charges the smartphone.
On the other hand, the ASUS ZenFone 5 LTE will have a price of $234 in Taiwan. The LTE-enabled smartphone is powered by a quad-core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 400 processor, comes pre-loaded with Android 4.4 KitKat, has a 5-inch IPS display with 720 x 1080 resolution, 8 MP primary shooter, 2 GB of RAM, 8 GB of native storage expandable using microSD cards, and a 2,110 mAh battery.
Are you planning to purchase any of these two new ASUS devices? Before you answer take a look at a couple of photos of the ASUS PadFone S and ASUS ZenFone 5 LTE.
