On its official blog, Mozilla today announced the plan for the expansion of its Firefox OS phones. Currently, there are seven smartphones running the OS - the LG Fireweb, ZTE Open C, ZTE Open, ZTE Open II, Alcatel One Touch Fire, One Touch Fire E, One Touch C and Huawei Y300 II.
In Europe, Deutsche Telekom will start offering the In the months to come, Deutsche Telekom will also launch Firefox OS devices in four new markets – Croatia, Czech Republic, Macedonia and Montenegro. Telefonica, which was one of the original Mozilla partners for Firefox OS, will expand its Firefox phones to Germany, too.
Carrier O2 has started pre-sales of the Alcatel One Touch Fire E, while ZTE plans to launch the Open C in France later this month.
Outside Europe, Firefox OS will broaden its presence in Latin America, namely in Central America, Argentina and Ecuador. América Móvil, which launched Firefox OS phones in Mexico earlier this summer.
Yesterday, we reported that Mozilla will partner with more than 20 carriers in India to launch very low-cost Firefox OS offerings. As for the broader Asia Pacific region, Telenor confirmed they will offer Firefox OS phones in Asia by the end of the year. In Taiwan, Chunghwa Telecom will also have Firefox OS devices, but there's no information which ones in particular.
