The affordable Moto G was one of the best selling mid-range smartphones of the year and you shouldn’t be surprised at all to hear that Motorola is already working on a successor. Even thought the Moto G follow-up is not the most anticipated smartphone of the year, I am pretty sure that the users in search of an affordable smartphone will be glad to hear some details about the Moto G2.
According to the folks at Mellando No Android the smartphone pictured above is the successor of the highly appreciated Moto G. According to the aforementioned publication, the Moto G follow-up, let’s call it Moto G2, will have model number XT1068.
Because the requirements in the Android smartphone world are raising each year, the Moto G2 will be, of course, more powerful than its predecessor.
If Mellando No Android’s report proves true, then the Moto G2 will arrive with a 1280 x 720 display with a pixel density of 320 ppi. Don’t worry, we did the math for you: that’s a size of a about 4.6-inches. The same source also indicates that the smartphone has a quad-core processor with Adreno 305 GPU (that’s most likely Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 400 chipset), and an 8 MP primary shooter, an upgrade from the 5 MP camera of the original Moto G.
Design-wise the alleged Moto G2 has a rather conservative approach, being a reminiscent of the Moto E. We appreciated the front-facing speaker grills though.
Even though the Moto G2 might not be the most powerful smartphone of the year, I am pretty sure that many customers would turn their attention towards, especially if the Chicago-based company will have the same approach in terms of pricing. In fact, the price point was what made the original Moto G so popular. Hopefully, they will stick with quick software updates, too.
