Sprint officially revealed that they are now rolling out a new Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4.2 update. Therefore, if you happen to own the Sprint Galaxy S4 variant you should keep an eye on the notifications bar.
Because the KitKat-specific goodies such as cloud printing, white status and nav bars, full screen album an movie art, white status bar icons, color emoji support, immersive mode, or new Location menu were patched in the previews Sprint Galaxy S4 Android 4.4.2 update, the new firmware only arrives with minor changes.
According to Sprint’s changelog the new Android 4.4.2 update for Samsung Galaxy S4 introduces HD Voice and improves security. HD Voice should make calls clearer, but it only works with other devices that support the technology. After you install the new update you should be able to notice the an HD Voice icon.
The new software update has version number L720VPUFNG2 and, as usual, it’s being rolled out in phases. This means that some of you might not be able to download and install it right away.
As you may know, once your Samsung Galaxy S4 becomes eligible to receive the new Android 4.4.2 OTA update you should be able to see a system update message in the notifications bar. Tap on it then follow the on-screen instructions. If the system update notification failed to show up, you would also want to perform a manual check under Settings > More > Software updates > Check for software updates. Alternatively, you can connect your device to the PC using the USB cable and check for the new update via KIES.
We don’t know what size the new update has, but it might exceed 200 MB. Therefore we recommend you to use a stable WiFi network while downloading the update file to avoid unwanted data charges.
