HTC’s Vice President of Management, Mo Versi, revealed last week on Twitter that the Taiwan-based phone maker aims to deliver the Android 4.4.3 update for the unlocked and international versions of the HTC One M8. According to the HTC representative, the new update will be issued later this week.
As you may know, the HTC One M8 Android 4.4.3 update is already available for Sprint users. If you’re wondering why the HTC One M8 isn’t jumping straight to Android 4.4.4 given that the Google Play Experience model is already running the latest Android version, HTC has an answer for you. It looks like the company’s engineers have managed to integrate the 4.4.4-specific security fixes in the Android 4.4.3 update for HTC One M8.
This basically means that the HTC One M8 won’t get updated the Android 4.4.4 at all, so Android L will be the next update for HTC’s flagship smartphone for 2014. I remind you that HTC promised they will deliver the Android L update for both HTC One M8 and One M7 within 90 days after they receive the final code from Google.
As usual, the HTC One M8 Android 4.4.3 update will be rolled out in stages, which means that the ETA may vary on region. Once your HTC One M8 becomes eligible to receive the new firmware update, you should be able to see a system update message in the notification bar. Tap on it, then follow the on-screen instructions. In case the Android 4.4.3 software update notification fails to appear, you will want to perform a manual check under Settings > About phone > Software updates > Check for software updates.
As I was mentioning above, the unlocked and international owners of the HTC One M8 will be the first to receive the new Android 4.4.3 update. If you happen to own a carrier-locked One M8, you may have to wait a few more weeks.
