A new iPhone 6 leak originating from China seems to reveal a critical detail about the upcoming iPhone 6’s on-board memory. According to Chinese Apple repair firm GeekBar, which posted an image on Weibo, the iPhone 6 will feature just 1GB of RAM, which may be seen as too low compared to current competitors that already pack 2GB and even 3GB of RAM for some phablets.
It’s not clear at this time whether the schematics leaked online describe the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 or 5.5-inch model. Various reports claimed the larger iPhone will have various differentiating specs and features, without revealing whether higher RAM was one of them.
For buyers who are interested in beefy specs this RAM reveal may be the most disappointing iPhone 6 leak yet, assuming the source has correct information. However, this doesn’t mean the iPhone 6 will offer decreased performance since Apple has consistently been able to offer great performance on its iPhones without boosting memory – for example, starting with the iPhone 5, all iPhone models came with just 1GB of RAM, a feature that did not sacrifice performance – or without engaging in a specs-matching war with Android handset makers.
Apple is expected to pack an even better desktop-grade A8 processor in the next batch of iPhones and optimize iOS 8 even more to further improve user experience without increasing RAM.
The leaked image that apparently reveals the amount of RAM for at least one iPhone 6 model follows below.
