Although TMZ appeared to turn into a haven for "drooling geeks" (their headline — not our words), for alleged iPhone 6 photos, experts are now claiming that the device in question is actually just an iPhone clone, 9to5Mac reports.
The "exclusive" photos are an Android wannabe device, according to the publication, as evidenced by an iOS 7 layout (the iPhone 6 will run the upcoming iOS 8 update) and an incorrect size and thickness of the Calendar app icon.
TMZ claimed that the device was smuggled out by an ex-employee out of a Foxconn factory, where many of the iPhones are manufactured. The gossip website also reported that their source confirmed that the alleged sixth-generation iPhone was "noticeably lighter" and packed a new, unknown sensor.
Unfortunately, however, this doesn't appear to be the real thing.
Still looking for the proof that both rumored iPhones will release this fall? Look no further than Thailand.
There have been reports that the rumored 5.5-inch "phablet" iPhone 6 might not arrive until later in the year or even early 2015, leaving the fall to its 4.7-inch companion. However, if a report out of Thailand is to be believed, consumers can likely gear up for both models this fall.
Taiwan's Manager Online reports that Takorn Tantasith, Secretary General of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) announced that his agency has approved two new iPhone 6 models for distribution in the country. The devices were approved on Aug. 8 along with the model numbers A1586 and A1524.
As BGR notes, this is the "best proof yet" the iPhone 6 models will release this fall:
"Apparently, Apple requested that the documents remain secret, but government regulations require that the information be made available to the public. Unfortunately, any details regarding the specifications of the two iPhone 6 models or the quantity of units being shipped to Thailand were kept under wraps, but we have to assume that the A1586 and A1524 are the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch devices we've read so much about over the past few months."
Specs rumors for the sixth-generation iPhone include an Apple A8, Near Field Communication (NFC) for mobile payments, Touch ID and an improved camera. The same color options offered in the iPhone 5S (Silver, Gold and Space Gray) have also been tipped in a recent alleged leak.
