Moto Maker to Allow New Custom Back Covers For Moto X+1, New Materials May Include Leather and Denim
The Motorola X was a pretty interesting Android smartphone and really popularized the concept of custom back panels that you could order directly from the manufacturer rather than get one made by a third-party manufacturer. For the next generation (Moto X+1) Motorola seems to have grand plans to provide consumers with a wider variety of materials to choose from.
Phonearena posted fresh information citing an unknown source that seems to suggest that Motorola is planning to add various new materials that buyers would be able to choose from when customizing their Moto X+1s. One of the materials that they believe is almost confirmed to be included is leather. In addition to leather, denim is also being tested reportedly but their source does not confirm if it would definitely be included. The familiar wooden covers would of course remain to be offered.
In addition to the new materials there could also be new color options, but at this stage it cannot be confirmed they say.
While the concept of modular smartphones is still a little far ahead, Moto Maker is probably the closest thing to it available today. Not only can you choose a custom back cover for your device but also the color of front, color of the accents, and also have a personal signature etched on the back cover. For people who love to customize everything they own, the Moto X+1 seems like a perfect smartphone.
The Motorola X+1 is expected to debut at a Motorola event scheduled for September 4 in Chicago. We’re certainly looking forward to the device and the leaked specs so far do seem pretty good. The X+1 is expected to feature a 5.2 inch Full HD display, Snapdragon 801 chip clocked at 2.5 GHz, 2GB RAM, 16 GB internal memory with a microSD card slot, 13 megapixel rear camera with Ultra HD video capture and a 2 megapixel front camera with Full HD video recording capability.
The Motorola G2 is also expected to make its debut alongside the X+1 on the same day.
