The Hulk-like version of the original Galaxy S5, the AT&T Active model, has received a brand new Android 4.4.2 KitKat firmware update. AT&T is releasing this update for Galaxy S5 Active after last week they have updated another Samsung model, the Galaxy S4 Mini.
Android 4.4.2 will possibly be the final KitKat build released for the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active. Make sure to check the notification panel starting today and confirm the download of the brand new firmware file. This new update is pushed OTA (over-the-air) and it has the firmware version set to G870AUCU1ANG3, Android version 4.4.2 KitKat and it has a build date set to 22 August. It doesn’t add any major changes and it only provides fixes for various errors and bugs that were present in the previous 4.4.2 KitKat builds.
The changelog of Android 4.4.2 KitKat for Samsung Galaxy S5 Active contains the following info: VVM ( Visual Voice Mail) tweaks, security fixes and updates, application installation improvements, fixed the accidental emergency dial for the lock screen, e-mail UX tweaks, re-activation lock enhancements, and several bug fixes that should improve the overall UI and system performance. This OTA update is only rolled out at AT&T and the release is done in phases, so you might not get it today.
In order to install this update you will have to confirm the download process when your AT&T Galaxy S5 Active phone displays the new Android 4.4.2 firmware upgrade notification. After that you will simply need to wait until the phone completes the installation automatically.
If the update notification doesn’t appear you can also choose to search for new files by yourself: look under Menu> Settings> More> About Device> Software Update. Press the ‘check for updates’ button and see if there is any Android 4.4.2 firmware available for download. Note that this update is only released for stock AT&T Galaxy S5 Active devices, you won’t get the update in case your phone is running a custom ROM.
If the Android 4.4.2 KitKat G870AUCU1ANG3 update has arrived and, you have already installed it on your Galaxy S5 Active AT&T, then feel free to tell us in comments if you can spot a major improvement over the previous build. Make sure to test the battery life, too.
