We’re due to get one more “blood moon” occurrence later this year but last night we were treated to a lunar phenomenon that doesn’t look quite so apocalyptic. The so-called “supermoon,” which occurs when the moon comes closest to the Earth during its regular orbit, lit up night skies around the world on Sunday evening and the BBC has collected a series of pictures from across the globe that show off just how amazing this astronomical phenomena looked.
The picture posted above was taken on a beach in Rio de Janeiro and the BBC has also grabbed some pictures of the supermoon looming over New York City, Mexico and China. Be sure to check out the full gallery by clicking the source link .
