Alcatel announced the successor to its Hero smartphone at IFA 2014 – OneTouch Hero 2. The phablet has a 6 inch display just like its predecessor with the same resolution too – 1920 x 1080 with a pixel density of 367PPI. The screen is protected by Dragontrail glass and also comes with OGS full lamination and oleophobic coating. There’s also ColoRize and ClearMotion image enhancers.

The CPU has been upgraded to an Octa-Core 2GHz Mediatek MT6592 chip with Mali-450 GPU clocked at 700MHz. There is also 2GB RAM on board for smooth performance and 16GB on board storage with a microSD card slot for expanding the memory up to 32GB. Rear camera on the phablet is a 13.1MP sensor with Optical Image and Video stabilization (OIS+EIS). There is also a 5MP front-facing camera for brilliant selfies. Both cameras are capable of 1080p video capture at 30fps. The battery has a capacity of 3100mAh and is rated for up to 10 hours talk time on a 3G network and 4.5 hours on 4G network.

In terms of connectivity there is Cat.4 LTE support for up to 150Mbps download speeds, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, and NFC. The phablet also comes with an integrated capacitive stylus that lets you draw, write or sketch with high precision. Alcatel has also included gesture control feature on it that lets you answer a call, shuffle music tracks, take selfies and much more with just simple gestures.There are also some very interesting accessories that the company has introduced to complement your Hero 2 phablet. The MagicFlip cover is probably one of the most innovative cover we have seen yet. The covers provide a wide range of functionality including working as a stand, provide LED notifications, and function as an extended screen for the MagicFlip DJ feature which lets your create your own mixes. The Sidekick 2 is also pretty interesting and works as a remote control for your OneTouch Hero 2, letting you receive calls, SMS or change your music tracks.

The Hero 2 is quite a slim device at just 7.9mm but obviously not something we would call compact by any means. Its overall dimensions of 160.5 x 81.6 x 7.9mm are very decent but at this size, even a high screen-to-body ratio can’t help much. The Alcatel Hero 2 will be offered in just 1 color – Dark Gray. It is expected to go on sale by the end of the month and has been priced at 350 euros.
