Need to charge up your iPhone 6 in a hurry? Don’t sweat it — there’s an insanely simple trick for doing it that’s so obvious you’ll kick yourself for not thinking of it yourself. We’re referring, of course, to charging your iPhone 6 with your iPad adapter.
Both MacRumors and iLounge have found that using higher powered adapters like the ones that ship with the iPad will get your iPhone charged much faster than if you use the standard iPhone 6 charger that you get out of the box. While this may seem like common sense, iLounge says that there was some doubt about whether the iPhone 6 would be able to effectively handle more powerful chargers.
“Our preliminary testing of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus has revealed that both devices are capable of using 2.1-Amp power under certain circumstances, despite shipping with lower-powered 1-Amp USB Power Adapters,” iLounge writes. “When connected to a Mac running OS X Yosemite, both models reported drawing 1600 mA of extra power, in addition to the base 500 mA used by the USB standard, suggesting that the new models can be charged more rapidly when using a higher-current power adapter.”
Furthermore, MacRumors notes that earlier iPhone models were limited in how much power they’d actually draw no matter what kind of adapter you used.
