Google Releases 4.4W.1 Update

Google has started seeding the Android Wear 4.4W.1 update to all Android Wear devices in the market, including the Moto 360, LG G Watch, and Samsung Gear Live. The update is one of many that Google has planned for Android Wear devices. Few more updates are expected to be released in the next three months.

The 4.4W.1 update isn’t a major update, though it still brings some notable improvements to the Android Wear experience. You can now get detailed business end point listings when using the navigation feature. You also get the option to choose the mode of navigation like you do on your smartphone. You can choose if you’re going to be walking, driving, or use public transportation. There are also some changes to the alarm function, allowing you to repeat an alarm on fixed days or for the whole week. Again, similar to how you use the app on your smartphone.

Even though this might be a very small update, it does show how Google is working towards making Android Wear devices more independent and function similarly to a smartphone. Google had announced its plans for Android Wear products few days back and stressed on bringing many new features and increasing the functionality to them. Instead of just being devices you sync with your smartphone, Google wants the Android Wear line of devices to perform many of the functions for which most users rely on their smartphones. Among the new features that Google plans on bringing include GPS support, offline music playback, custom watch etc. Android Wear seems to be gaining popularity with more manufacturers rolling out products with Android Wear. At the IFA trade show in Berlin last week, we saw quite a few new wearable devices being unveiled.
