Google’s next Nexus smartphone might be a bigger version of the amazing Moto X

Motorola’s 2014 Moto X model may be considered the best Android phone currently available in stores by some people, but there’s a way the handset can get even better.9to5Google has learned from sources familiar with the matter that the Motorola Shamu – the codename for the Nexus 6, or Nexus X as it’s been called lately – will beGoogle’s first phablet model, featuring a 5.92-inch display. Furthermore, the device is “basically going to be a scaled up second-generation Moto X with minor tweaks to make the larger screen easier to use.”

It certainly makes sense to see Google adapt a Moto flagship for its Nexus needs, considering the company has done the same thing with previous Nexus models from LG, both based on LG top smartphones. Furthermore, considering the potential name resemblance – Nexus X vs Moto X – it would make some sense for the two devices to be similar when it comes to design and features.

The design of the Nexus X hasn’t been finalized, but it’s expected to be similar to the Moto X. There will be some differences, such as the placement of volume and power buttons (closer to the center of the device), but all the other elements will be proportionally located in the same places as on the Moto X. The Moto X’s aluminum bezel and main camera will also be present on the Nexus X.

As for hardware, the publication says the Shamu will have a QHD display (2560 x 1440 resolution) with 498 pixel-per-inch (PPI) ratio, quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, 13-megapixel camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, 3,200mAh battery and Android L under the hood. A smaller 5.2-inch Nexus X version, which appeared in previous rumors, might also be in the making.

When it comes to special Moto X software, the Nexus X will lack certain features, including Moto Assist and Quick Capture.

The Shamu is expected to launch in November, following an October announcement. A mockup based on the Nexus X’s design follows below.
