LG G Flex 2 Successor Arriving Soon With Smaller Display And Higher Resolution

Remember the curved LG G Flex smartphone? Err… We mean phablet. It was the first curved smartphone to be launched and came with a 6 inch curved P-OLED display with HD resolution. New reports suggest that LG is working on its successor and will be launching it very soon.

A report from Gizbot states that the Korean manufacturer will be launching the G Flex 2 to compete against the Galaxy Note 4 and the iPhone 6 plus this holiday season. The website claims to have received a tip from a senior executive at LG India on the device. The second generation G Flex is said to be more compact than the first one and come equipped with a resolution higher than Full HD but not Quad-HD. That does seem pretty weird as it makes very little sense to opt for a resolution somewhere between 1080p and 1440p. The phone is said to be announced at an event later in the year. Their source also claims that the G Flex 2 will be launching in Korea, US and India.

The first G Flex wasn’t a huge success commercially and wasn’t available in many markets either. And the markets where it did launch, the crazy high pricing drove away most prospective consumers. It does seem like LG was only intending to make a statement with the G Flex and show the world that they are one of the most innovative smartphone OEMs out there and have the potential to launch some amazing products and new technologies like the curved OLED display.

We hope the new G Flex will be a bit more serious product and come with a more affordable price tag. It just doesn’t make sense for LG to repeat the same mistakes again with the successor. Some curvy high-resolution OLED goodness, combined with the latest Snapdragon 805 chipset and an improved design could make the G Flex 2 a strong rival to the Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note Edge and the iPhone 6 Plus.
