The cheapest place to preorder an iPhone 6? Don’t go to Apple!
On Friday, Apple and its partners in various countries will start taking preorders for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus smartphones that will hit stores a week later – in typical Apple mid-September iPhone launch fashion – and while the new devices will be available both for full and subsidized prices, you shouldn’t order you iPhone straight from Apple just yet, as better offers will be available from Walmart and Sam’s Club, CNET reports.
The retailer is already prepared to sell the new iPhone 6 versions below their official on-contract price – Walmart also has better iPhone 5s on-contract prices than Apple’s – offering buyers who pre-order the iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus a $20 discount and a $15 e-gift card.
That means the 16GB iPhone 6 will cost $179 with a new contract from AT&T, Sprint or Verizon, while the 16GB iPhone 6 Plus will be priced at $279 under the same conditions. Buyers who get them from Sam’s Club will get a further $2 discount on each model.
Meanwhile, Apple’s prices for the same devices bought on contract are $199 and $299, respectively.
Both phones will also be available for contract-free purchases, as Apple has already listed pricing details for all iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus version. Compared to last year’s iPhone 5s off-contract prices, the iPhone 6 is even cheaper, provided you choose the 64GB or 128GB model.
