Motorola G 4G Variant Gets Official CyanogenMod 11 Nightlies

The Motorola G was one of the most impressive Android smartphone to debut last year and helped Motorola build a new image for itself in developing markets while strengthening its brand appeal in the more affluent markets with a product that offered almost high-end performance at an entry-level price. The Motorola G has really redefined the budget smartphones segment, as of date we see no other smartphone that offers the kind of bang for the buck the Motorola G uses. Now the device is almost close to getting phased out in various markets, as Motorola plans its successor supposedly named G2. But it continues to receive good support from the manufacturer as well as the XDA developers community. The Motorola G forum on XDA is buzzing with a lot of activity and many senior developers support the device and help the owners of the device extract the maximum performance out of it.

There’s some great news for the owners of the 4G variant of the device as an Official CyanogenMod 11 ROM is now available for you to flash on your Motorola G 4G (Peregrine). CyanogenMod 11 is based on the latest Android 4.4.4 firmware and allows you to increase performance and enjoy the smoothness of stock Android. Even though Motorola’s stock official firmware is pretty close to stock Android, AOSP is a different thing altogether for hardcore Android fans.The ROM has been compiled by senior XDA member Somcom3X and shabbypenguin. Since it is a Nightly ROM, you don’t have to worry about stability. Everything works just fine with no major bugs reported so far. Overall impressions seem pretty positive going by user replies on XDA with most members being very satisfied with the ROM overall.

Before you plan to flash the ROM on your device make sure you unlock the bootloader on your device, if you haven’t already. Then you would need to flash a custom recovery like THIS and then download the ROM from the source link. After flashing the CM11 ROM make sure you flash the latest GAPPS package (Google Apps) for Android 4.4.4 or at least 4.4.3 as CyanogenMod ROMs do not make with Google apps installed.Do keep in mind though that this cannot be flashed on the HSDPA model. So all you 3G Motorola G owners would probably need to wait longer to be able to enjoy CyanogenMod 11 on your devices.
