Oppo to offer choice of metal construction with N3

Metal smartphones are all the rage these days thanks to Apple and HTC. Both manufacturers primarily use metal for the exterior of their high end devices (though Apple had some trouble adding structural rigidity to its device). But you typically don’t get to choose whether you’d like your device to be made of metal or plastic.

In an interesting move, Oppo has teased that the Oppo N3 will come with an option of two different types of metals. There will be stainless steel, which is strong but heavier, and there will be aluminum lithium alloy. Aluminum lithium alloy is an interesting option because the addition of lithium makes it both stronger and lighter. Oppo says it’s the lightest alloy available.

I don’t quite understand why Oppo would offer two different metals with different properties for its next smartphone, but it’ll definitely be interesting to see how people react to it. In the end, choice is a good thing. Maybe there will be a price difference, with stainless steel costing less. What do you think of the choice in metal? Tell us in the comments!
