Even though it was previously rumored that Samsung will introduce a Galaxy Note variant with a bent display, many seemed to have ignored the rumors. Well, Samsung actually released the bent Note yesterday, during their Unpacked 2 event in Berlin. It’s called Galaxy Note Edge and it shares its hardware platform with the original Galaxy Note 4.
Samsung haven’t offered more details about the Galaxy Note Edge release date except that it will be made available for purchase sometime in October. We had no doubt that the new and innovative smartphone will be coming to North America, but the big US carriers wanted to confirm that for us.
AT&T announced via a press release that they will be “among the first” to have the new Samsung Galaxy Note Edge on their shelves. Verizon said that both the Note 4 and Note Edge will be available in their stores this fall and they even posted a sign-up page here. As expected, Sprint will also carry the new smartphone, but they failed to reveal more details on its availability. T-Mobile said to expect the Note 4 in October and the Note Edge later this fall, while US Cellular didn’t reveal their plans for the Edge.
As I was mentioning above, Galaxy Note Edge arrives with a display that’s bent over one of its edges. That curved Edge screen allows users to read their notifications without having to turn on the whole 5.6-inch Super AMOLED screen with 1600 x 2560 resolution. Note Edge is powered by a quad-core 2.7 GHz Snapdragon 805 processor paired with 3 GB of RAM, it has 32/64 GB of internal storage, microSD support (up to 64 GB), and a 16 MP primary camera with optical image stabilization and 4K video recording support. The user-facing 3.7 MP camera has Wide Selfie support, while the connectivity features include LTE, WiFi, NFC, infra red, and microUSB 2.0. The handset is kept alive by a 3,000 mAh battery which, courtesy of fast charging functionality, can go from 0% to 50% in about 30 minutes.
