Samsung SM-A500 Mid-Range Smartphone Coming Soon With Metal Body And 13MP Camera

We recently brought you news about Samsung’s plan to launch three new A-series Galaxy smartphones with metal build similar to the Galaxy Alpha. So far only the SM-A300 specs had leaked, but now some more details have emerged on the SM-A500 model thanks to SamMobile.

According to SamMobile’s sources the SM-A500 will be another offering from Samsung in the mid-range smartphone segment. The main highlight again, would be the metal build of the device and it is expected to feature a design very similar to the Galaxy Alpha. But unlike the Alpha, it is expected to feature a full metal build with no faux-leather removable back cover. If this info is indeed accurate, it would be the first all-metal build Galaxy smartphone.

It is reported to be coming with a 5-inch 1280 x 720 Super AMOLED HD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor, 1.5GB RAM, 16GB internal storage with microSD card slot, 13MP rear camera with 1080p video recording, 5MP front-facing camera, and a 2330mAh capacity battery. Samsung isn’t likely to include any of the premium features it offers on its high-end devices, like the heart-rate sensor, fingerprint scanner or water resistance. The smartphone is intended to cater to those customers who are just looking for a well-built and premium looking smartphone in a budget.The device is expected to come with Android 4.4.4 KitKat and is also said to feature the same TouchWiz UI as seen on the latest Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy Note Edge. However, you will not be finding the same feature-set as the Galaxy Note 4, only a similar appearance.

The move to offer metal body smartphones in the mid-range segment could be attributed to Samsung’s declining market share in the Android space. Its market share overall has dropped sharply in the past 2 years with the rise of the Chinese Android OEMs who offer devices with high-end specifications at mid-range prices. Could the new A-series Galaxy line up help Samsung fight the Chinese onslaught? Only time will tell.
