 Sony’s First Android Wear Smartwatch
With just 3 days left for IFA to kick off, the rumor mills are buzzing with new information and leaks on various products that all the big names in the tech world have planned to show off at IFA. One of the big names that will be announcing a wide range of new products is the Japanese consumer electronics giant – Sony. So far we have seen plenty of leaks on the Xperia smartphones and the mini tablet that the company is expected to unveil at the expo in Berlin, but new reports from 9to5Google point to a brand new Android Wear smartwatch that we had no clue about until now.

The report states that Sony will launch its SmartWatch 3 at IFA, powered by Android Wear and feature a 1.68 inch 320 x 320 display with IP58 certification for dust and water resistance. The design is said to be similar to the Samsung Gear 2 Neo. There will also be another wearable product – SmartBand Talk that will succeed the Sony fitness tracker Smartband SWR10. It will reportedly come with a curved e-ink display,
The site also posted new information regarding the Xperia product line-up scheduled to be launched at IFA. Three smartphones and one tablet will be launched according to them. Apart from the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact that we knew about already, a mid-range Xperia E3 is also going to be announced. It is expected to be a mid-range smartphone for people looking for an affordable smartphone with decent specs. The rumored specs for the device point to a 4.8 inch 1280 x 720 HD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 1.5-2GB RAM and a price tag of around $200-$300.
The Xperia Z3 and the Xperia Z3 compact are said to feature higher level of water resistance compared to their 8 predecessors with an IP68 certification. The Xperia Z3 is also said to be packing a new display technology with higher brightness and contrast ratio. The report also claims that it could feature some sort of software caching enhancements that will allow the device to keep going for 2 days on a single charge. T-Mobile is said to carry the Xperia Z3 as an exclusive.
Finally, the Xperia Z3 Tablet compact is apparently going to be marketed as being the thinnest and lightest waterproof tablet in the world. The 8-inch tablet is said to be just 6.4mm thin and come with a 1920 x 1080 Full HD resolution. All three Z3 devices share the same internals – Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 2.5 GHz and 3GB RAM.
These new bits of information released today do make us a little more curious about Sony’s IFA event than earlier. We weren’t expecting to see anything new from Sony at IFA but now we do want to see what other surprises could be in store for us. We’re looking forward to Sony’s take on Android Wear and the accessories that they could be unveiling along with the products. The Z3 Compact sounds great and will offer a good alternative to people who do not want to buy an iPhone but would want something as powerful and compact. Interesting times ahead!
