Spice Android One Dream Leaks Before Tomorrow’s Announcement

Google has planned a press event tomorrow in India to formally announce its new Android One program and also launch the first devices from the stable. The announced devices will be going on sale soon after their announcement tomorrow, through major Indian online retailers. Spice’s Android One offering has been leaked a day before event, and gives us a good idea of what to expect tomorrow.

The smartphone appeared briefly on Indian online retailer Flipkart’swebsite, revealing all specifications and pricing. The phone will be called the Spice Android One Dream UNO and carry the model number Mi-498. The device has been priced at Rs.6999 (roughly $120), a little higher than what Google planned to launch Android One devices at during the I/O developer conference earlier this year.

The specifications of the device seem to be quite impressive for the price it is going to be sold at. It comes with a 4.5-inch IPS display with 854 x 480 FWVGA resolution display, Mediatek 1.3GHz Quad-Core CPU with Mali-400MP GPU, 1GB RAM, 4GB of internal memory, microSD card slot for expanding memory up to 32GB, 5MP rear camera with Full HD 1080p video recording, and a 2MP front-facing camera with 720p HD video recording, 1700mAh battery, FM Radio, and Dual-SIM support. The phone will be running the latest version of Android – 4.4.4 KitKat.

These specs are quite impressive for the price range and could revolutionize the entry-level Android segment in India and other emerging markets where people have so far had to be satisfied with under-powered smartphones and no guarantee of software updates ever. For the Android One line of devices, updates will be pushed out by Google regularly so people don’t necessarily have to upgrade their phones to enjoy the latest Android version at an affordable price point.
