The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are poised to be the biggest launches in the history of the company. Thousands of fans lined up for days in anticipation of the release while others got up at 3 a.m. last week to preorder online before the first batch inevitably sold out. In other words, iPhone is as hot a commodity now as it was last year… but is it still cool to own an iPhone?
According to a recent poll from Reuters, Apple just isn’t as cool as it used to be. In this ridiculous poll, which Reuters admits was “based on a limited sample,” 16% of respondents said that Apple had become less cool over the past two years. This is up from 14.3% last year. Let’s not get into how on earth you can quantify cool, much less chart its rise and fall over the years — the important thing is that only 11% of respondents said the same thing about Android.
Android is cooler than Apple. Deal with it.
“Especially when you have competitors who are doing a lot of innovative things themselves and great advertising, it’s not surprising that Apple doesn’t have the same cachet and coolness that it once did,” branding expert and Dartmouth professor Kevin Lane Keller told Reuters.
But it’s not just branding experts who see Apple’s clout beginning to fade.
“The only new idea they’ve come up with is that they’re adjusting the size of their products,” said average American citizen Holly Riggle.
Burn.
We’ll see how Apple responds to these damning results once they finish fulfilling the 4 million preorders they received in just 24 hours.
