You won’t be buying an Apple CarPlay vehicle this year after all

It seems that amid all the excitement surrounding the iPhone 6 launch, Apple has quietly delayed one of its most intriguing new proposals. 9to5Mac noticed on Tuesday that Apple had updated its CarPlay landing page to note that the CBS News application will be compatible with the software, but the company also removed any mention of the year 2014 from the lineup of vehicle manufacturers that have partnered with Apple.

Until Tuesday, Ferrari, Honda, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo were all listed with the following clause: “CarPlay will be available on models from these great marques in 2014.”

Any mention of 2014 has since been removed and all of the manufacturers have been consolidated into a single list. Some companies had already confirmed that their vehicles wouldn’t include CarPlay before the change was made, but this should erase any doubts.

Others, such as Pioneer, had previously stated that CarPlay would be coming in the summer of 2014. As September comes to a close, it’s becoming painfully obvious that Apple simply couldn’t finish its software in a timely fashion.

So unless you’re in the market for a Ferrari FF, which appears to be the only vehicle from any Apple partner to come equipped with CarPlay, you’re going to have to wait until 2015 to sync your iOS devices seamlessly with your car.
