Apple announces the iPad mini 3
The second Apple event of the fall is underway and the company has already unveiled the iPad Air 2. Next up is the second tablet of the day — the iPad mini 3. The latest iPad mini didn’t get much stage time, but Apple delved into a few specifications: the iPad mini 3 will feature a 7.9-inch Retina display, 5-megapixel iSight camera with 1080p HD video recording capabilities, FaceTime HD camera, 802.11n WiFi with MIMO and, of course, Touch ID.
Much like the iPad Air 2, the iPad mini 3 will be available in silver, space gray and gold. It will start at $399 for the 16GB version, $499 for 64GB and $599 for 128GB. The cellular models will retail for $130 more each: $529 for 16GB, $629 for 64GB and $729 for 128GB.
When the iPad mini 3 launches, the iPad mini 2 (also known as the Retina iPad mini) will drop to $299. The original iPad mini will drop even further to $249.
Preorders for the iPad mini 3 and iPad Air 2 begin on Friday, October 17th and and will begin shipping next week.
