Best Android Apps of the Week: Box 3.5, Snowball, Tasker 4.5, and More
You may probably know from our previous Best Android Apps of the Week posts that here you will be able to find both new apps and older apps that have received important updates. Some of the apps are free, other may be payed, and some may have in app purchases. So carefully read the description before installing them.
Box 3.5 – Free
Even though Box is a cloud storage service focused on business clients, is still quite popular among regular users. Last week, it was updated to version 3.5.
The biggest new addition of the latest update is the ability to mark files and folders as Favorites. Box 3.5 also brings support for viewing and managing collaborators in folders, to print images and documents from the file preview page (KitKat or later), and to create checklists within Box Notes (KitKat or later).

BrainWave – Free
There are a couple of Android OEMs that implemented hand gestures via their custom skins, but BrainWave is an app that helps you control musing player without touching your phone’s screen. It’s free and quite cool.
BrainWave uses your phone’s front-facing camera to allow you to Play, Pause, Skip to next track, or go Back while a music player is opened. To Play/Pause simply place your hand palm-down 1′ – 2.5′ inches above the display, to skip to next track swipe right with your palm perpendicular, and to go back swipe left with your palm perpendicular. It’s as simple as that.
As I was mentioning above, BrianWave is a free app. You should also know it’s still in Beta so don’t get mad if it doesn’t work flawlessly. You can grab it from Google Play Store here.
Fitbit – Free
Fitbit is a fairly popular fitness tracking app that works with the activity trackers and smart scales with the same name. The app received an updated last week.
The Fitbit version introduces Challenges. From now on, you will be able to challenge up to 10 people in three different contests: Weekend Warrior, Daily Showdown, and Workweek Hustle. The developers have also redesigned and improved the steps to set up a Fitbit tracker in the last update.
The Fitbit app is free and it can be downloaded form Google Play Store here. It’s also worth adding that the Challenges feature is still in beta.
Autodesk SketchBook – Free
A basic version of Autodesk SketchBook is available in Play Store for some time, but you will not be able to enjoy more features. The professional version is now up for download bringing advanced tools, a plethora of brushes, and more.
The illustrators who payed $65 for a full licence for the desktop version of SetchBook, will be able to install the Android app for free after they log in. You will be able to enjoy features like customizable brushes, synthetic pressure sensitivity, and it’s compatible with Dropbox cloud storage.
There’s also a free version of Autodesk SketchBook available in Play Store, but to take advantage of all the features you will need to pay $3.99. You can download it from this link.
Snowball – Free
There are quite a few messaging apps out there. Some of your friends may be using Whatsapp, others prefer Facebook Messenger, while some use SMS to communicate with you. Snowball aims to bring all these in one place.
Snowball is a floating bubble, similar to Facebook’s chat heads that brings your messaging apps in one place. When you receive a notification form one of the compatible messaging apps you will be able to access it using the aforementioned floating bubble. Snowball is compatible with Hangouts, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Snapchat, WeChat, Line, Slack, and the default SMS and Twitter apps and as you tap a notification in Snowball you will be redirected to the relevant app.
Snowball is in Beta and it’s available for free. You can check it out in Google Play Store here.
Square Order 2.0 – Free
If you happened to live in San Francisco or New York City and you are a Square customer, then you might have heard about the Square Order Android app. We are glad to announce you it has been updated to version 2.0.
Square Order 2.0 adds arrival predictions which will enable you to order a meal or drink while travelling towards a Square restaurant, and the guys there will now when to have your order ready for you to get it while hot. The new update also adds the ability to save favorite menu items, support for cancelling orders, and suggestions.
Square Order 2.0 is now being rolled out to users. You can check out the app in Play Store here, but, remember, is only available for users living in San Francisco or New York City.
8tracks Playlist Radio – Free
Even though there are plenty of music streaming Android apps, 8tracks stands out with its simple, white interface. Now, the application got the 3.1 update.
8tracks 3.1 introduces Chromecast support. The new update also fixes various bugs, the ability to sort by trending, newest, or popular, and adds a new permission to enable to users to send 8tracks logs.

Tasker 4.5 – $2.99
When it comes to Android automatization, Tasker is undoubtedly the most powerful tool. The app got updated to version 4.5 over the past week.
The Tasker 4.5 update brings quite a few location-centric enhancements. It now has support for Google Maps API version 2, it allows the user to drag and drop the location pin to specify a location, you can search locations using a specific address, and more.
Tasker has a price of $2.99. You will be able to download it from Play Store using this link.
