Google is finally done putting the finishing touches on Android 5.0 Lollipop, as the company revealed when it unveiled the new Nexus 6 smartphone and Nexus 9 tablet earlier this week. Both new devices represent a big departure from Google’s previous-generation Nexus phone and tablet, which both focused on affordability. With the new Nexus 6 and Nexus 9, however, Google and its partners built premium devices at premium prices.
But you don’t need to pay those steep prices to get Android 5.0 Lollipop’s awesome new look.
Lollipop brings with it a number of new features and enhancements, but the biggest and most exciting change is definitely the beautiful new look of Google’s “Material Design.” It’s far more modern than the user interface in previous versions of Android. According to Google, Material Design is “a visual language that synthesizes classic principles of good design with the innovation and possibility of technology and science.”
The bad news is that it will still be a few months before most popular Android phones are updated to Android 5.0, and even then, much of Google’s gorgeous new design will be covered by vendors’ UI skins. The good news, however, is that you can at least get a small taste of Android 5.0 right now.
Thanks to Android fan Leonardo Fiaschi, two new Android 5.0 Lollipop wallpapers are now available to download. They might not bring Google’s new Material Design to your handset — though there are already some apps that will take care of that — but they will give you a small glimpse of the future while you wait.
Both new wallpapers are below, and you can click them to view and download them at their full sizes.
