Rumors suggest Google is just days or even hours away from finally revealing Android L release details alongside its new Nexus 6 smartphone and Nexus 9 tablet. The company previewed the latest build of its Android operating system this past summer, and the star of the show is clearly Google’s new “Material Design” that completely changes the look of Android and makes it far more sleek and modern.
But while the world waits to find out when Android L will finally start rolling out to mobile devices, a newly leaked roadmap reveals that Samsung is still hard at work trying to get the latest build of last year’s Android release on its most popular phones.
Gadget blog G 4 Games points us to a post from a senior member of the XDA Developers forum that supposedly reveals Samsung’s update roadmap for popular phones like the Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 2.
The good news is that S5 and Note 3 should be updated at some point this month, with many other models to follow in November. The bad news is that this isn’t the new Android L update we’re talking about here, it’s Android 4.4.4 KitKat.
Samsung typically isn’t the quickest vendor out there when it comes to updating its phones to the latest version of Android, so we likely have quite a bit of time before any of the company’s phones receive Android L updates. In the meantime, handset owners with any of the Samsung smartphone models on the leaked roadmap below will finally get Android 4.4.4 in the coming weeks.
