Microsoft unveiled its own next big thing earlier this week in the form of Windows 10and ZDNet’s Ed Bott has taken a preliminary look at the platform’s technical preview and has put together a terrific slideshow that tells you about all of its most important features so far.
We won’t spoil the whole thing but Bott does a nice job of breaking down several core elements of the new operating system, including a new Start menu that he says blends the traditional Start menu with the look of the newer Modern UI, the merciful deletion of the merciful deletion of the Charms menu whenever you’re hooked up to a mouse-and-keyboard setup, the ability to run multiple desktops and faster multitasking features.
Microsoft has a lot riding on Windows 10 as Windows 8 was a highly polarizing operating system that left many longtime users frustrated at some of the jarring changes Microsoft made to its traditional UI. The company has gone out of its way to bring some of those features back in Windows 10, including most notably the return of the full Start menu.
