It’s official: the next version of Android will carry the name Lollipop. After months of speculation, the most popular answer turned out to be the correct one as Google unveiled Android 5.0 alongside a new range of Nexus devices. We’re sure to hear plenty more about the update in the coming weeks as Lollipop begins rolling out to select Android devices, but how exactly did Google land on the name in the first place? We were given a hint yesterday, but now the truth has been revealed.
As it turns out, Lollipop was simply the best man for the job. Google published the full casting video on Wednesday, one which we saw a snippet of on Tuesday as the tension began to mount for today’s announcement. The inclusion of a man dressed like an Oreo totally pays off too.
As all the actors sit around in their ridiculous costumes, primed and ready for their auditions, a man with a lollipop suddenly emerges from the casting room, laughing and joking with the directors.
“Hey, next year’s M!” the lollipop man proclaims. The costumed crowd storms out of the room.
