LG G3 Lollipop Update To Roll Out Soon In South Korea
LG pulled off a surprise earlier this month by announcing the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for its flagship G3 smartphone. The company has been lazy with Android software updates in the past and took a lot of time to update even its flagship models. So the quick rollout of the G3 Lollipop definitely surprised us. The company has rolled out the Lollipop update only in Poland so far, but it looks the update is now ready to be pushed out in other markets. LG South Korea released a press statement earlier today that detailed the company’s Android 5.0 update plans for the South Korean market.
The Android Lollipop update for the South Korean G3 models will be rolling out this week onwards. The updates will come directly from LG and users can download the 5.0 update from the LG website or get it on their G3 smartphone directly via OTA update. It looks like carriers will not be rolling out the update, so all the three South Korean carrier variants of the G3 should receive the Lollipop update at the same time.
According to LG, the changes with the Android 5.0 update include an updated UI design, Android runtime (ART) for enhanced performance, improved connectivity with accessories like Smart Watch and devices like Television and tablets, smart lock feature that works when you have an Android Wear smartwatch connected to the smartphone, improvements to Bluetooth connectivity and all the other features that Android 5.0 Lollipop brings.
LG does look like it would be the first major OEM after Motorola to successfully update its flagship smartphone by the end of the year. LG was hoping to be the first OEM to get the Lollipop update rolled out, but Motorola edged it out by updating its Moto G and Moto X earlier than LG. Nevertheless, it is still a huge improvement for LG and we hope the company will update more of its smartphones to Android 5.0 Lollipop next year and continue to quickly update its devices to the latest Android version.
