Nexus 5 Android 5.0 Lollipop OTA Update Now Live
After almost a month of waiting, the Nexus 5 Android 5.0 Lollipop OTA update is finally here. Google announced via Twitter that the new software is now being pushed to the Nexus 5 owners and users are already reporting that they are receiving the update.
As usual, we are dealing with a staged roll out, which means that some of you might have to wait longer until the Android 5.0 Lollipop for Nexus 5 hits your terminal. It’s also worth noting that the Lollipop update has build number LRX21O and that it weighs in at around 400 MB. Therefore, it’s recommended to use a stable WiFi network to download the update file in order to avoid unwanted changes.
You may know already that, once your smartphone becomes eligible to receive the new Nexus 5 Android 5.0 Lollipop update, you should be able to see a system update message in the notifications bar. You know the drill: tap on it, choose ‘Download now’, wait until the download is completed, then select ‘Install now’. Your smartphone should reboot and install the new firmware. In case the system update notification failed to show up, you would also want to perform a manual check under Settings > About phone > System updates > Check now. You should also know that you must run an official stock firmware in order to be able to receive the update.
If you haven’t received the Android 5.0 Lollipop update on your Nexus 5 yet, there are a couple of ways to get it before Google decides your terminal is worthy to receive the new update. You can either manually force the update using the OTA ZIP files (not yet available) or you can flash a factory image. Note that the latter procedure will fully wipe your device and it’s recommended if you are coming from a custom ROM.
