Samsung Gear S: 10,000 units sold in South Korea on day one
Samsung just released its latest smartwatch in South Korea and the device was and still is a real success. The company managed to sell more than 10,000 units right from day one. Of course, we are talking about Samsung’s own home, but still such a number for the debut should be considered a record, especially if we are talking about a smartwatch instead of a new smartphone or tablet.
Samsung Gear S was made available through SK Telecom and KT retails which registered a market share of more than 20,000 units in the last week. Thus, if you are planning in getting your own Gear S from South Korea, you better hurry up.
Why is everyone so enthusiastic when speaking about this watch? Well, probably because it can be used as a phone too. Gear S is featuring a SIM slot with support for 3G networks. Thus, you won’t have to companion your smartwatch with your smartphone for being able to initiate phone calls; Gear S makes it all possible.
Besides SIM card support, the device also features a curved 2 inch Super AMOLED display, an Exynos processor (dual core, clocked at 1 GHz), 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB of internal storage and a 300 mAh battery. As far as connectivity concerns, Gear S supports 3G, Bluetooth 4.0, A-GPS, accelerometer and other dedicated features such as heart rate monitor or UV sensor. The watch is water and dust proof as it is IP67 certified.
Currently Samsung Gear S is available on various markets such as US and UK with pricing offers starting from $200 (on AT&T) on a new two year agreement. So, what do you say, are you interested in buying this new smartwatch or you rather prefer a more classic design and choose Motorola’s devices instead?
