This might be the best smart device ever… and it sounds too good to be true
The Dragonfly Futurefön is a brand new crowdfunding project that has takenIndiegogo by storm, raising more than $340,000 from interested backers, or 340 times the amount it initially sought. The device is meant to replace smartphones, laptops and tablets with a single gadget that has phone capabilities, a large display, a physical keyboard, and can run both Android and Windows, depending what the user requires.
The Dragonfly comes with a special collapsible mechanism that lets the user fold it into a more convenient-to-carry format, and has a detachable part (the Slingshot) that can act as a standalone phone — or phablet, considering that each of its two screens measure 7 inches diagonally.
On the WinDroid version, the Slingshot runs Android, while the base runs Windows, with the user able to select which operating system to use, depending on his or her needs. An Android-only version of Dragonfly is also available, meaning that Android runs both on the Slingshot and no the base.
When it comes to specs, the Dragonfly is supposed to pack quite a punch — and it actually sounds too good to be true considering the proposed prices. The device offers two 7-inch Super AMOLED display with 2560 x 1440 resolution (combined resolution is 5120 x 1440 on a 12-inch display), multi-core processor for the Slingshot and x86 multi-core processor for the base, 4GB of RAM in the Slingshot and 4GB of RAM in the base, 128GB storage on the Slingshot and at least 128GB of storage on the base, dual SD card slots, dual LTE antennas, dual front- and rear-facing cameras, 3,200 mAh battery on the Slingshot and a large capacity battery on the base.
The cheapest Android Dragonfly costs $300, while the most affordable WinDroid retails for $400. The Dragonfly is supposed to ship in late Q1 2015 or early Q2 2015.
