Latest Nexus 9 Batch Comes With Hardware Faults Fixed

The Google Nexus 9 is a beast when it comes to the hardware spec-sheet. No doubt about that. But unfortunately owners of the device haven’t been completely smitten by the device due to some major hardware complaints with the power and volume buttons and excessive backlight bleed from the display. Google product forums and other technology forums around the web seem to be flooded with complaints by Nexus 9 owners about the poor quality control from HTC. There are a larger number of complaints about the power and volume buttons, which seem to be quite hard with almost zero travel. That is obviously not very tolerable on a device that costs upwards of $399 and is the flagship Android tablet currently. But thankfully it looks like HTC is aware of the issues with the display and the hardware buttons and according toposts from various Reddit users, the latest batch of the Nexus 9 seem to have these faults fixed.

The buttons on the newer batch seem to be a lot better and aren’t hard to press like earlier. The display light bleed issue hasn’t been completely fixed, but it does seem to be much better than the earlier batches and is now a lot less noticeable. The back of the tablet also wasn’t very firm in the earlier batches, but on the latest batch the back is said to flex a lot less. At this point, it isn’t clear if Google and HTC are going to replace Nexus 9 devices sold so far with these hardware faults. It isn’t very common that we see companies do a mass recall for minor quality control issues like these, but since a lot of users are clearly unhappy with their purchase due to these hardware faults, there are chances that at least a free replacement could be offered. The fact that the tablet hasn’t gone on sale in many markets yet and has been sold in very limited numbers also will help Google and HTC to get the older units with hardware faults replaced quickly.

So if you are planning to get a new Google Nexus 9, it is would probably be a good idea to wait a little longer for the new batch of devices to arrive in stock. Or you could also go to a physical store and verify the manufacturing date before making a purchase. If the Nexus 9 in stock has been manufactured in November, it will most probably not have the hardware faults as the older batches. But buying online doesn’t guarantee you a newer batch device, so if you are worried about whether or not Google will offer a free replacement, you should wait a few weeks before ordering one from an online store or even the Google Play Store for that matter.
