Samsung SM-J100H Budget Galaxy Smartphone Leaks With 4.8″ Display & Quad-Core Chipset

Over the past few weeks a number of unannounced Samsung Galaxy smartphones have leaked. Recently we saw the Galaxy E-series smartphones being leaked and now a new entry-level Galaxy smartphone seems to have leaked that could be a great rival to the likes of Moto E, if priced right. The devices has leaked courtesy of a User Agent profile found on the Samsung Mobile website and also on the popular benchmark app GFXBench’s online results database.

The device carries the model number SM-J100. This might mean that the device could be part of the Galaxy J series family and perhaps be marketed as the Galaxy J100 considering Samsung’s switch to a single-letter naming convention for its Galaxy devices lately. The device does seem to pack decent hardware which seems to be geared at the low-end smartphone market, with an aim to take on devices such as the Moto E. The Galaxy SM-J100 will reportedly come with a 4.8” display with 800 x 480 resolution, a Marvell PXA1908 ARMv7 quad-core chipset clocked at 1.2GHz with Vivante GC7000UL GPU, 1GB RAM, 4GB onboard storage, 5MP front and rear cameras with 1080p Full HD video recording, and a bevy of sensors including a barometer.

Interestingly the devices leaked through the UA profile and GFXBench seem to be slightly different models. The one leaked via UA Profile on Samsung Mobile website is the SM-J100H model while the one leaked via GFXBench carries the model number SM-J100F. The CPU on the SM-J100H model is reported to be based on ARM Cortex A7 with a clock speed of 1.3GHz. It might be that the model leaked on GFXBench could be an early prototype with lower clocked CPU. We will need to wait until the official announcement to find out. There is nothing else that the leaked User Agent profile reveals to us, except for the Android version. The device currently runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat, which is probably what it will be available with out of the box when it launches next year. Major Android OEMs like Samsung do not care about shipping the latest Android version with their entry-level smartphones like Motorola does, so an update to Android 5.0 Lollipop isn’t likely on the cards for the Galaxy J100.

On the leaked GFXBenchmarks, the SM-J100 doesn’t seem to perform that great when compared to the Moto E, which is the current champion among Android entry-level smartphones. Since the 2nd generation Moto E is expected to arrive with a quad-core Snapdragon 400 chipset very soon, Samsung will need to price the Galaxy J100 significantly lower than the Moto E in order to compete, as the sub-par performance and outdated Android version will not help the Galaxy J100.
