Twitter suffers outage, users logged out
"Something is technically wrong," the microblogging service's welcome page said.
Millions of Twitter users were caught unawares on Monday morning when they found they couldn't log into their Twitter accounts. The social network found itself in the midst of an unscheduled and unexpected maintenance.
A message on the Twitter status page read: "Some users are currently having trouble signing in to twitter. Our engineers are currently working to resolve this."
A Twitter representative in India told TOI that the nature of the bug that had caused international outage was not yet clear, though the engineers had already began fixing it in patches with success. Meanwhile, on other online forums like Reddit, users had been complaining since about 6.30 in the morning (IST) about being logged out of their Twitter accounts.
While the Twitter India employee also acknowledged the problem, a post on Reddit from a user called IrresppectiveOfOthers said: "I'm sitting beside a Twitter employee... He was wondering why he was logged out of his Android account. He just logged in through his corporate laptop and it's working for him there. Twitter is aware people are being forcefully logged out," and later added an edit, "He says the success rate in Sacramento is now 20%, which is an improvement.
Access through Twitter clients such as Tweetdeck was also not working, some users reported. "This happened for me at almost exactly midnight UTC.. anyone else notice that?" asked Something_Pithy. For some users who were able to log in, there seemed to be update issues with the tweets. "Yeah looks like it has something to do with date/ time. New tweets are showing as 1 day old in the browser and the date is 1 year in the future in the HTTP response header."
A further update from Twitter on the matter is awaited.
Update:
As of 11:37 IST, Twitter was seen to be back up on desktop in India. The Twitter support account (@support) tweeted that the issue had been resolved.
