Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 Edge tipped to feature microSD card slot, water resistance and larger batteries
Samsung’s upcoming flagship is far from official unveiling, but that doesn’t stop the rumor mill from buzzing. The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are set to feature a microSD card slot, larger batteries and IP67 certification for water and dust resistance, reports VentureBeat. This piece of information comes from famous tipster Evan Blass, a.k.a. @evleaks.
The Galaxy S5, which was launched in 2014 featured a microSD card slot and was also the first Galaxy S-Series smartphone to be water and dust resistant. No doubt, last year’s Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge were one of the best-looking smartphones with glass back and metal frame, but ditching microSD card slot and water-proof feature didn’t go well with users. With this year’s Galaxy S7-series, Samsung doesn’t seem to keep any stone unturned.
The VentureBeat report also states that the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are likely to come equipped with slightly bigger 3,000mAh and 3,600mAh batteries. In comparison, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge are equipped with 2,550mAh and 2,600mAh batteries.
Samsung Galaxy S7 specifications and features: As for the design, the Galaxy S7 and its variants could look similar to last year’s Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, WSJ reports. However, 3D-Touch like display technology, a microSD card slot and a USB Type-C port are the features that are likely to differentiate the Galaxy S7 from its predecessors.
On the hardware front, the Galaxy S7 is expected to flaunt a 5.1-inch QHD display, whereas the Galaxy S7 Edge is said to come with a larger 5.5-inch QHD display. Under the hood, the smartphones could be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chipset or Samsung’s homebrew Exynos 8 Octa 8890 SoC, which could be market dependent. With 4GB of RAM, 32GB and 64GB storage options are likely to be in tow.
In the photography department, the smartphone is likely to come with a 12-megapixel sensor (compared to 16-megapixel on the Galaxy S6), which could bring better low light performance. A fingerprint scanner and an iris scanner are expected.
While Samsung hasn’t fixed any announcement date yet, it could unveil the smartphone on February 20, at the MWC 2016 in Barcelona.
