Xiaomi Mi 5 could launch on February 20

The Xiaomi Mi 5 might still be a month away from its launch but we already know what to expect in terms of its features and specifications. The only missing bits remain its launch date and pricing, but now we have a fair idea about Xiaomi’s launch plans. 

A Weibo post claims that Xiaomi will host an event on February 20 where it will unveil the Mi 5, and the smartphone will go on sale a day later. A report out of China also claims that Foxconn employees are working overtime to prepare for the launch towards the end of February. While there is currently no way of confirming the dates, it is in line with the timeline revealed by Xiaomi co-founder Liwan Jiang.

By unveiling the Mi 5 on February 20, Xiaomi will beat the likes of Samsung and LG, which are believed to be hosting their MWC 2016 events on February 21. Samsung is expected to unveil its Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge and Galaxy S7 Edge+, while LG will unveil the its flagship G5 smartphone.

Xiaomi Mi 5 specifications and features: As per the latest leaks the Mi 5 is expected to feature a 2.5D curved 5.2-inch QHD (2560×1440 pixels) display, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of RAM, and will come in 16GB and 64GB storage variants.

It is also expected to feature a 16-megapixel rear camera with dual-LED flash, 8-megapixel selfie camera, 3,600mAh battery, fingerprint scanner, and connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE support, and NFC. On the software front, it runs on Android Lollipop-based MIUI 7. Reports also claim that Xiaomi could launch the Mi 5 in two variants - one with a metal back and another with a glass back.
