Xiaomi Redmi 3: Top 5 smartphone rivals from Lenovo P1m to Samsung Galaxy On5

The Mi 5 is one of the most anticipated smartphones, but Xiaomi has kick started the New Year by launching a new budget smartphone, Redmi 3. It is going on sale in China tomorrow priced at 699 Yuan (Rs 7,100 approximately). The talking points of the budget smartphone are the full-metal body with a patterned back panel and a large 4,100mAh battery.

The Redmi 3 features a 5-inch HD (1280×720 pixels) display, and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 octa-core processor paired with 2GB of RAM. It also comes with 16GB of internal storage, hybrid dual-SIM card slots, 13-megapixel rear camera with Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF), 5-megapixel selfie camera, and the 4,100mAh battery. It supports 4G LTE connectivity, and runs on MIUI 7.

With these specs and the approximate price range, Xiaomi’s Redmi 3 will face competition from the likes of the Micromax Canvas Nitro 4G, Lenovo Vibe P1m and the Samsung Galaxy On5 among others. Following are five smartphones that will compete with the new Redmi 3.

Meizu m2: The Meizu m2 is priced at Rs 6,999, and is available on Snapdeal. It features a 5-inch 720p IPS display, 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6735 quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB internal storage along with microSD card slot. The smartphone also features a 13-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel selfie camera, 2,500mAh battery, dual-SIM card slots and 4G LTE support. The Meizu m2 and the Redmi 3 are closely matched, but Xiaomi’s smartphone has the advantage of a much bigger battery.
Lenovo Vibe P1m: The Vibe P1m was launched in October last year for Rs 7,999 and comes closest to the Redmi 3 as far as the size of the battery is concerned. In comparison to the 4,100mAh unit on the Redmi 3, the Vibe P1m boasts a 3,900mAh battery. It also features a 5-inch 720p display, MediaTek 6735P quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB internal storage along with microSD card slot. It also features an 8-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel selfie camera, dual-SIM card slots and 4G LTE support.
Samsung Galaxy On5: Samsung launched the Galaxy On5 back in November, which is exclusively available on Flipkart for Rs 8,990. It features a 5-inch 720p TFT display, Exynos 3475 quad-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, and 8GB internal storage along with microSD card slot. It also features an 8-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel selfie camera, 2,600mAh battery, dual-SIM card slots, and 4G LTE support. The Redmi 3 has the advantage of an octa-core chipset, more RAM, double internal storage, a big battery and better set of cameras as well.
Honor 4C: The Huawei-backed company launched the Honor 4C last year, priced at Rs 8,999. The smartphone features a 5-inch 720p display, 1.2GHz Kirin 620 octa-core chipset, 2GB of RAM, and 8GB internal storage along with microSD card slot. It also features a 13-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel selfie camera, 2,550mAh battery, dual-SIM card slot and 4G LTE support. The Redmi 3 here has more internal storage, and not surprisingly, a much bigger battery.
Micromax Canvas Nitro 4G: The Micromax Canvas Nitro 4G is now available below Rs 10,000 and features a 5-inch 720p IPS display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, 1.4GHz 64-bit octa-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB internal storage along with microSD card slot. It also features a 13-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel selfie camera, 2,500mAh battery, FM Radio, dual-SIM card slots, and 4G LTE support. On paper, Micromax’s smartphone is on par with the Redmi 3, except for the battery bit.
