WhatsApp for Android beta updated, brings reorganized settings menu
Soon after adding support for numerous emojis, sharing photos and videos from third party apps and sharing documents, the upcoming WhatsApp update is set to bring a completely reorganized settings menu. Currently in beta, the feature was first reported by AndroidPolice. While the update is not available on the Play Store yet, you need to signup as a beta tester to be able to download it, or wait until the company officially starts rolling it out.
With the new revamped settings menu, WhatsApp aims to make the settings menu simpler. Earlier, the option to change the profile picture and status was into the profile menu, but it is now moved directly into settings.
The ‘data usage’ option is also moved directly into settings, and ‘help’ is now renamed to ‘About and help,’ ‘chats and calls’ is now renamed to ‘chats.’ There are other changes in the sub-level settings too. The ‘profile’ page has been modified too. The profile picture now appears round and not square.
Also, now that WhatsApp is completely free, the Payment info option has been removed from settings. The new ‘data usage’ section has all data related settings such as sent and received messages, calls, bytes, media and more. The update also includes bug fixes and general improvements to performance.
Recently, WhatsApp also added the option to add up to 256 members in a group. The company also recently revealed that its active user base had crossed a billion.
