Google has launched the official Android 4.4.4 KitKat firmware update for all their Nexus smartphones like Nexus 4,5, 7 and 10. At the moment only Nexus 5 users have confirmed that the OTA has arrived, while the Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 devices should get it starting later today or early tomorrow.
The new Android 4.4.4 update contains security tweaks and some minor bug fixes that were reported in Android 4.4.3 KitKat release. Check your device’s notification panel and see if there is any new firmware update released for your device.
The official Android 4.4.3 KitKat was released only a month ago and there were tons of issues reported by Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 users stating that they found problems with bluetooth and Wi-Fi Signal. This new KitKat 4.4.4 iteration has the build number set to KTU84P and the official Factory Images and Binaries for this version are currently hosted by Google on its own servers.
If you decide to flash a factory image instead of waiting for the Android 4.4.4 KitKat OTA Update, then you should know that by installing such file you will end up wiping your entire device and lose all data stored on it. Since this new release only contains minor fixes and security tweaks we recommend you to wait until Google pushes the OTA Firmware 4.4.4 KTU84P firmware for your Nexus 4, 7 and 10. If you own a Nexus 5, then you might not need to wait that long as the roll out has already begun several hours ago.
The security flaw found in the Android 4.4.3 KitKat might have been related to an OpenSSL bug which permits something like a man-in-the-middle attack to take place.
