While we still don’t know when Apple will release its first-ever wearable computer, it now seems likely that we’ll at least get our first look at it next month. Re/code’s John Paczkowski, who also was the first to report on the iPhone 6’s grand September 9thunveiling, now reports that Apple is going to announce a wearable computer of some kind alongside the iPhone 6 at the same event.
Paczkowski claims that “the new device will, predictably, make good use of Apple’s HealthKit health and fitness platform.” and “will also — predictably — make good use of HomeKit, the company’s new framework for controlling connected devices — though it’s not clear how broadly or in what way.”
We’ve heard countless different rumors about when the iWatch will actually release and we’ve even heard some solid reports that the device won’t be released until 2015. However, it’s doubtful that Apple would announce its newest device and then wait several months to actually release it, so it’s safe to assume that some kind of wearable computer will come out of Cupertino later this year.
That said, we still don’t know if the wearable computer that will be revealed on September 9th will be a proper smartwatch or a Nike FuelBand-style fitness tracker. Either way, we’ll know for certain in less than two weeks.
